About MIU’s MFA in Creative Writing
The MFA for the sensitive writer
The founder and director of Soul Bone℠ is also the founder and director of Maharishi International University’s MFA in Creative Writing, a two-year, 48-credit online MFA program that is mentorship-based. We teach from a foundation of creative process and consciousness; plus use meditation and self-care as modalities to open up the creative imagination. We approach writing as a process of discovery where writer and creativity come before creative product. We also strongly focus on social justice and examine topics relevant to today’s world including climate change and more. We have adopted several features (narrative evaluation and unsilencing the workshop, for example) to actively decolonize the writing classroom. Together, we form an authentic, inclusive, and diverse literary community particularly welcoming of female, LGBTQIA, BIPOC and other minority narratives. Below you can find more information about our MFA, meet our faculty and students, check out our residency line-ups of guests, follow our news, and more. Our Online Residencies are Open to the Public
A number of our MFA Residency events are open to the public and are offered as part of the Soul Bone℠ Literary Festival. Our Spring residency takes place in February and our Fall residency in August/September. Both are conducted online via Zoom and last one or two weeks with a full literary schedule. During each two-week session, prestigious poets and writers offer workshops, master classes, panels, and readings. The emphasis is on inclusivity, diversity, creativity, consciousness, the relationship between writing and intuition, and much more.
Our next festival and residency take place in February, 2024. All are welcome! We’ll announce all public events via Eventbrite.
